River Levels One Year Ago | Video

Nick Dreyer | 5/16/2012

One year ago, on May 16th, 2011, the city of Minot was breathing a sigh of relief about the Souris River, if you can believe it.

The river had crested, we thought, at 1549 feet at the Broadway Bridge. The river was flowing at 6700 cubic feet per second. Flows coming from Canada were also dropping and there were talks of cutting releases from the Lake Darling Dam.

City of Minot employees were busy monitoring dikes looking for any leaks. Little did we know that five weeks later the Souris River would be 13 feet higher with a flow of 27,000 cfs.
